The work
Advice before replacing your fuseboard
A new consumer unit needs to be suitable for the circuits it supplies. We’ll assess the existing circuits, earthing and bonding and discuss the protective devices required for the installation. If checks reveal faults or other work that affects the replacement, we’ll explain the findings and agree how to proceed.
What we can help with
- Assessment of the existing consumer unit and circuits
- Discussion of the replacement and protective devices
- Identification of related work needed for the agreed installation
- Installation, inspection and testing
- Electrical Installation Certificate and applicable notification

A clear photo of the consumer unit and the property postcode are useful starting points. Please don’t remove covers to take photographs.

- 03
Arrange the replacement
We’ll plan the power interruption, complete the work and provide the relevant paperwork.
Before you change your fuseboard
Will a new consumer unit fix every electrical fault?
No. Faults can be elsewhere in the installation or in connected equipment. Existing issues may need investigation or repair before or during the replacement.
Will the power be off?
Yes. The supply needs to be safely isolated during the work. We’ll discuss the expected arrangements before booking.
What paperwork will I receive?
Consumer unit replacement work is inspected and tested, with an Electrical Installation Certificate provided. Applicable building control notification is also dealt with.
Can you quote from a photograph?
A photo helps us start the conversation, but it doesn’t show the condition of the circuits. Further information and checks may be needed before the scope is confirmed.
